Dr. Adam P. Knowlden
Adam P. Knowlden, MBA, MS, Ph.D, MCHES®, is an Associate Professor of Health Science and Director of the SLUMBRx Lab at the University of Alabama. Dr. Knowlden's research focuses on the prevention of adiposity and sleep-associated cardiometabolic disease risk factors.
In 2019, he was awarded a National Institutes of Health grant ($817,595) through the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to initiate the SLUMBRx (Short Sleep Undermines Cardiometabolic Health) Study.
Dr. Knowlden has received multiple awards for his research including the 2020 Society for Public Health Education Presidential Citation for Research, 2017 Human Environmental Sciences Leadership Board Excellence in Scholarship & Research Award, 2016 American Academy of Health Behavior Judy K. Early Career Research Award, 2015 Society for Public Health Education Horizon Award, and the 2012 University of Cincinnati Graduate Student Award for Exemplary Scholarship in the Behavioral Sciences. In 2013, he was awarded a competitive research dissertation fellowship to design, implement, and evaluate a novel, family-and-home-based childhood obesity prevention intervention.
Dr. Knowlden is a member of the American Academy of Health Behavior, American Public Health Association, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and Society for Public Health Education and serves on the Editorial Board for the peer-reviewed journal, Health Education & Behavior. Dr. Knowlden earned his MS and PhD degrees from the University of Cincinnati. He received his MBA from Franklin University while employed as a Legislative Analyst for the Columbus City Council (Ohio). Dr. Knowlden is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist® (MCHES®) registered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
